From Saturday the 13th to Sunday the 21st of October 2018

The Lumière Festival is celebrating its 10th anniversary! An event on the birthplace of the cinematograph, which focuses on cult films to differentiate itself from other festivals. It is organized by the Institut Lumière and its media-friendly director Thierry Frémaux, also general delegate of the Cannes Film Festival.

This allowed him to attract stars like Clint Eastwood, Quentin Tarantino, Pedro Almodovar, Martin Scorsese or Wong Kar-wai. In addition to receiving the Lumière Award, these filmmakers re-filmed in their own way the first film of all time : Workers Leaving The Lumière Factory in Lyon (1895)

This year, the American actress Jane Fonda receives the Lumière Award for her entire career. Among her projected films : Barbarella, Klute, They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?, The Electric Horseman … She also chooses to pay tribute to her father Henry Fonda, with a selection of 10 movies, “Henry by Jane (Fonda)” with The Grapes of Wrath, Twelve Angry Men, Once upon a time in the West, or On Golden Pond which united father and daughter.

The festival will also be the occasion of the French preview of The Other Side of the Wind, Orson Welles’ unfinished film finished for Netflix by its main actor, director Peter Bogdanovich. And that of an unprecedented mini-series by Stephen Frears with Hugh Grant : A Very English Scandal

Let us also mention retrospectives of directors like Jean Luc Godard, Claude Lelouche or Richard Thorpe…
