Port Authority – Gender Story
Danielle Lessovitz’ first feature film, Port Authority, depicts the rebirth
of the New York Voguing scene, thirty years after Madonna’s hit.
We met the transgenre star Leyna Bloom.

A touching and brilliant indie UFO, Port Authority is almost a documentary about the ballroom scene in New York and voguing LGBTQ+ dancers, weaved into a very SundanceFestival kind of social drama following the path of 99 Home. Danielle Lessovitz’ first feature film, a rich and well written story, was presented in Cannes in the Un Certain Regard competition. The movie features Fionn Whitehead, a British actor discovered in Dunkerk, as a young man lost in New York.
There, he meets McCaul Lombardi, a start in-the-making of indie cinema —We the Coyotes, American Honey, Sollers Point — who plays the leader of a network of young marginals organizing evictions. He also falls in love with Leyna Bloom, transgender actress and model, whom we met in Cannes. She explained to us that « New York was the perfect place to shoot the movie, as we see a lot of different people, with varied ways of living. On my part, it was vital to have places where anyone can express themselves. And the movie precisely gives a voice to characters that any viewer can identify with. It celebrates diversity and brings together the audience. »
