From February 13 to 17

The Gaîté Lyrique, in Paris’ third arrondissement, is hosting the fifth edition of FAME (International festival of musical film). An event composed of exclusive previews, new movies introduced in and out of competition so as to talk about music through cinema.

It will open with High Energy directed by Olivier Monssens who tells us about the origins of the hi-energy, the first form of electronic dance music derived from the disco born in San Francisco’s and New York’s gay clubs at the beginning of the 80’s. And also with Cultes made by (LA)HORDE, a movie about the phenomenon of festivals, that is a “distraught trip in the heart of the crowd”. Rap will always be celebrated with La Fine Equipe directed by Magaly Richard-Serrano, a hip-hop fiction about the backstage and difficulties of a tour on a music of Oxmo Puccino. And the documentary webserie Paris 8 – La Fac hip-hop directed by Pascal Tessaud.

But woman’s emancipation is really the central theme of this 2019 edition, with Shakedown, a documentary directed by Leilah Weinraub, that introduces us to an underground an illegal club of the 2000s, dedicated to afro-American lesbian women. L-7 : Pretend We’re Dead, other documentary of Sarah Price about the queens of Californian grunge movement. Or Mayanga/Maya/M.IA directed by Steve Loveridge, intimate portrait of the singer M.I.A, Sri-Lankan refugee, who became an international star. A documentary that has already won the jury prize at Sundance Festival 2018.

We may also quote the documentary about the French singer Daniel Parc (Pieces Of My Life) or a strange movie relating the deadly drift of a Nordic metal band (Lords of Chaos). We also have to mention the workshops, live performances, DJ set post-projections and conferences that take place during the festival. A sound and visual experience in the heart of Paris to discover at the Gaîté Lyrique !
