AGNÈS VARDA’S PARIS

Ciné Balade x Somewhere\Else

March 9 from 14h to 16h. A walk through the 14th arrondissement in the foosteps of Agnès Varda, the New Wave’s iconic moviemaker and her manifesto movie Cléo from 5 to 7 (1962). Presentation.

“The day after the international woman day, Ciné-Balade is celebrating one of our greatest French woman moviemaker”, “the grandmother of the New Wave”, Agnès Varda. Walking through the streets of Montparnasse, Denfert and Vavin, we will travel together to her films’ shooting spots and especially the very feminist “Cléo from 5 to 7 “ you will be able to see in theatre the same night if you book on Lost in Frenchlation (Movie with English subtitles for our English-speaking friends).

She has lived in the neighbourhood for more than 60 years. That’s why Agnès Varda likes to say that the more you know people, the more you understand places and the more you understand places, the more you know people. Then let’s discover Agnès and Cléo and watch several film clips in open-air scenery.

We will not forget to pay tribute to Michel Legrand her longstanding friend, who composed and played for the film.

The tour starts close to Gaîté for an immersion in history and the street Daguerre’s daily life which got famous thanks to the films of Agnès Varda.

Along Montparnasse’s cemetery and around Raspail’s Boulevard, we’ll find another leading figures who contributed to the history of the neighbourhood: sculptor Caesar, philosopher Simone de Beauvoir, Montparnasse’s painters…

Finally, from Vavin’s crossroads, we’ll come back to Montparnasse’s cimetery, place where many films were shot: Les Chansons d’amour, Jalouse and Paris je t’aime, and we’ll discover one of the most beautiful grave of this wonderful place. The tour end where it first started, at the Gaîté.
