Arcs Film Festival
From December 15th to 22nd

Festival dedicated to European auteur cinema, Arcs Film Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. Organized at the heart of the Alps and close to the Italian and Swiss borders, this event aims to highlight the unknown talents of our continent. For us to discover the movies of our neighbors instead of all watching the same American cinema.

The competitions will decide between 24 short films and 10 feature films chosen by festival director Frédéric Boyer (also artistic director of the Tribeca Festival in New York and former programmer of the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes).

Among them are two French films competiting, Un Homme Fidèle the elegant smooth talk of Louis Garrel (Critics’ Prize at the Toronto Festival) and C’est ça l’Amour, a family chronicle directed by Claire Burger (co-director of Party Girl, prix un certain regard at Cannes in 2014).

But also Peter Strickland’s strange In Fabric. British fable around a red dress that takes place during the sales of a department store. Aniara a Swedish Martian chronicle signed Pella Kågerman and Hugo Lilja. Or Smuggling Hendrix German-Cypriot comedy by Marios Piperides who follows a man facing absurd European regulations that forbid him to retrieve his dog who fled to the Turkish area of ​​the island.

To decide between them, a jury that combines Swedish director Ruben Östlund (Palme d’Or 2017 with The Square) and Bosnian director Jasmina Žbanić, actresses Charlotte Lebon and Clémence Poésy, actors Ramzi Bedia and Félix Moati or musicians Jean Benoît Dunckel (Air) and Manu Katché. While Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi and Romain Duris are the guests of honor of the festival.

Moreover, this year Poland is the guest of honor of the festival through 12 feature films and 6 short films. The opportunity to see Ida de Pawel Pawlikowski, Oscars of the best foreign language film in 2015 but also Anotherday of life, a beautiful cartoon (in the vein of Vals Im Bashir) who follows the footsteps of journalist Ryszard Kapuscinski in Angola in war of the 70s. Or Wild Roses, a kind of Devil’s body in the contemporary Polish countryside. The Arcs Film Festival offers for this anniversary edition 185 sessions spread over 6 rooms (in the different sites of the station and in Bourg Saint-Maurice in the valley).
